Digital Image Format Rules

You need to comply with these digital image formatting and labeling rules to enter the Annual Digital Competitions. The entry dates of each competition are shown in the programme.

Members are able to submit up to three images each in the Applied and General Competitions. The Rundle Trophy entry is the fixed at three images per member. In Audio Visual the only limit is time - no longer than five minutes.

All photographs must be the original work and the copyright of the photographer, who must be a current member of Ilkley Camera Club.

No digital image to be submitted in more than one competition. The same image may not be converted to mono, if the original was in colour or vice versa, renamed or used in print competitions or in club competitions in future years.

As well as the individual competition trophies all entries are competing for the D J Slingsby Trophy.

The submitted images should be appropriate for the competition entered. However, all entries should be in accordance with these format rules.

COMPUTER MANIPULATED IMAGES

These are permitted in all General Competitions (see below with reference to Applied Competitions) providing that the work be largely based on PHOTOGRAPHIC IMAGES, which must have been taken by the photographer.  All manipulation of the image shall be carried out by the photographer, or under his or her immediate control.  This can include cropping, masking, filtration etc., removing unwanted details, blemishes, and the addition, of the details of other photographic images taken by the photographer except in the following categories:

In the Applied Record, Natural History and Travel competitions, manipulation should be limited to contrast and colour corrections, cropping/re-sizing and cleaning up the single image where necessary.   This should not alter the main content of the original photograph particularly in Natural History.

HOW TO PRESENT DIGITAL IMAGES FOR COMPETITION

Each member's entries are to be on one CD/DVD. The name of the photographer and telephone number is to be clearly written with a permanent marker on the CD/DVD.

Images must be in jpeg format at a maximum quality, RGB mode (for both colour and monochrome images) and in the sRGB colour space. The image size should be 1400 pixels wide and 1050 pixels high (NB if in portrait format the maximum height will be 1050 pixels). As images will be judged at this size they should be entered at these dimensions and no other.

Any image which is less than the maximum allowed in either direction should be filled with black to form a border. This is because the images will be projected with a black background and bright borders are distracting.

Each image should be in a separate file and the filename should be:

How to present images

Image title underscore image number underscore membership number e.g.

‘Red Car_01_25.jpeg’, ‘Island_02_25.jpeg’ and ‘Castle_03_25’

(Images 1, 2 and 3 from member number 25)

The images for each competition filed in separate directories or folders on the CD/DVD, with each directory or folder to have the competition name.

In the event of a high number of entries in a competition, the Digital Secretary reserves the right to remove all third images to ensure that a competition does not over run and to give the judge time to comment on the remaining images.

All the images to be judged will be copied onto a single disk and the original disks destroyed.

DIGITAL IMAGES USE

As well as being shown in the competition entered the club will keep the digital images solely for record purposes, for use on the website and the end of year awards ceremony presentation where required.  The photographer will retain copyright.

The Digital Secretary whose decision is final may remove any entries assigned to the wrong competition or breach these rules failing an agreed solution with the photographer.
