Club Honours


In recognition of their long and valuable service to the Club the Committee have appointed the following persons as Life Vice Presidents:

David Haigh was a founding member along with his father, Tom who was the first Chairman of the Club.  David has been a valued member for over 50 years. He was President in 1962 and 1978-1980.  He has won many photographic awards at local, regional, national and international levels. He has judged competitions at all levels.


Ian Strang was, until recently, Club Treasurer for 26 years.  With his keen and careful watch on the Club’s finances throughout this time he has made an important contribution to the success of the Club. He was President in 1971.

 
Geoffrey Vere was President in 1964 and 1975. His Christmas Social punches will never be forgotten! Well known for his charity work in Ilkley which was recognised with the award of the MBE.


Stuart Parker was Syllabus Secretary for 15 years. Throughout that period with his detailed knowledge of the photographic scene he managed to produce a varied and interesting programme of meetings which helped the Club to attract and maintain membership levels in difficult times.  He also ran for several years the Wednesday Practical evenings for beginners at the Clarke Foley Centre. He was President in 2002-2004. He is also a regional judge.


Judy Parker was a committee member for over 20 years.  Secretary for 13 years.  She was President in 1998 and 1999. She has hand written a thank you letter to all visiting lecturers and judges, which is greatly appreciated and set a good example of the professional way we care for visitors. Every week she has been one of the first to arrive at Church House to set up the kitchen, reception table, and administer the health and safety attendance register and be a warm and friendly face for new arrivals.


Chris Flanders has twice been President of the Club 1990-1992 and 2006-2007. Also Print Secretary and YPU rep. With his IT background he set up and ran the Club’s web site.
