As notified to members the committee at their August 2010 meeting have agreed to Nick Hodgson's suggestion to create a private Group on Flickr for members to display and comment on their latest images. So far 20% of members have joined and submitted images which is an excellent start. The more members we have the better will be the feedback to help us all improve the quality of our images. Therefore do not delay in joining.
YPU Annual Exhibition held at York on 8 - 9 May 2010
This year the Club has won the Society Award, the J E Barker Trophy for General Colour Prints. We had 15 prints exhibited which was a 25.42% acceptance rate compared to the average of 15.88%. It shows that we are one of the leading clubs in the YPU. Several members either received certificates or had their images selected for the Photographic Alliance Competitions. New Life Vice President
At the Annual Dinner and Presentation of Awards on 23 April our immediate Past President, Rod Marsh was pleased to announce that the committee have agreed to make Judy Parker a new Life Vice President in honour of her work on behalf of the Club for over twenty years. The Club is setting up two Special Interest Groups, Natural History (Co-ordinator John and Liz Stringer), Distinctions (Co-ordinator Rod Marsh). The latter is for those members who wish to submit panels to the PAGB for assessment in order to gain an Award for Photographic Merit The coordinators will be emailing all those who have expressed an interest in joining one or more groups to arrange an initial meeting.
The idea behind the Groups is that the members will help and assist each other to improve their images, skills and presentation to achieve their objectives. More members are welcome to join. If you are interested please contact the coordinators.
Fotospeed Discount
The Club has recently agreed a discount scheme with Fotospeed for the benefit of Club members and the Club. When you order from Fotospeed you mention that you are a member of Ilkley Camera Club and that the club is registered with them. You will receive a 10% discount, and the club will receive a credit amounting to another 10% of your order. When the club has sufficient credit, it can be exchanged for Fotospeed materials for the club to use as it wishes.
The Club has purchased a new Canon XEED SX80 digital projector, a lap top computer, speakers and other associated equipment using the National Lottery grant received earlier last year. As before, it was a condition that the Club had to provide community benefits by giving public talks on digital photography. A programme of talks was arranged by the Committee and completed to the satsfaction of the National Lottery.
Camera Art Print Exhibition, Saltaire Festival, 10 - 20 September 2009
The club was invited to stage an exhibition at the Saltaire Festival again this year. It is two years since we last had an exhibition in the Saltaire United Reformed Church. It generated further interest in the Club's activities and donations received were shared with the Church. Click here for further details including catalogue of selected prints.
