YPU
Ilkley Camera Club is a member of the Yorkshire Photographic Union (YPU). There are sixty-four clubs in the YPU, which in turn is one of fourteen regional Federations in the country. At national level, all the Federations come together in the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB).
The PAGB produce a handbook listing competition judges and speakers that is a useful source of information when our Syllabus Secretary is arranging next year’s programme. They also arrange insurance policies for the Clubs’ benefit. They provide guidelines on what judges and speakers can charge, including travelling costs.
At international level, the PAGB is a member of Federation International de l'Art Photographique. FIAP is an International Federation whose members are national photographic federations, one per country on all four continents.
Regular photographic competitions are organised by the YPU, PAGB and FIAP. The YPU has an annual Exhibition in May hosted by a different member Club each year. The cost of which is partly paid by the YPU and local sponsorship. It is also dependent on having a suitable venue for both the assembly and the exhibition. The latter is usually open to the public for several days.
PAGB and FIAP also make awards for photographic excellence as detailed under Further Information. Club members are encouraged to participate at all levels. Several of our members have been successful both in exhibitions and in receiving awards in recognition of their high photographic skills.
The Club pays an annual fee to the YPU. The amount varies dependent on the number of members per club. In return, the Club has two representatives who attend the bi-annual meetings, currently held at Selby in March and November.
By these means, clubs work to common standards and participate in the wider amateur photographic world.
