Field Trip Report – Upper Washburn Valley 26 June

Large Red Damselfly

Large Red Damselfly by John Stringer

It was good to make an early start from Blubberhouses upstream towards Thruscross, but it soon became apparent that we were too early for dragonflies, damselflies and butterflies.

After we had been enjoying the wild flowers, and especially the orchids, for a couple of hours the sun came through the foliage and with it came abundant insect life.

Of course the six members attending had different interests – I think the birders might have been disappointed with only Dipper and Grey Wagtail showing in the river, but eventually I think everyone had something to show for their early start.
