PAGB Club Print Championship - 23 October 2010
The YPU invited the Club and Normanton Camera Club to represent them at the 2010 PAGB Club Print Championship held at Connahs Quay, North Wales on Saturday, 23rd October.
There were 36 clubs from across the whole of the UK. In Round 1, each club entered 12 prints with a minimum of 5 colour and 5 mono images by at least five authors. The top eight clubs then competed in the Final Round while all the other clubs competed for the Plate.
The prints were judged by a panel of three judges who could award a maximum of 5 marks each per print. With a maximum of 15 marks per print x 12 prints = 180 marks.
The Judges were:
- Graham Hodgkiss MPAGB ARPS AFIAP APAGB
- Ann Miles MPAGB FRPS EFIAP
- Rikki O'Neil MPAGB FRPS
In Round 1, we achieved a score of 141 marks, which put us in joint 12th place with three other clubs. The highest score was Arden P. G. with 161 marks. You can see the individual marks for our 12 prints here.
Normanton C. C. was in 29th place in Round 1.
Over lunch, we had to select five prints for the Plate competition. We could only enter a maximum of three prints from Round 1 with a minimum of two mono prints and by at least three authors.
We also had to take into account the apparent judges overall preferences from Round 1 while appreciating that a good score in Round 1 did not guarantee a similar score in the Plate.
The same marking system applied, 15 marks per print x 5 prints = 75 marks.
Our score of 64 marks put us in joint 8th place with one other club. The scores were so close that had we gained two more points we would have been in joint 3rd place. Rolls Royce P. S. won the Plate with a score of 69 marks. Normanton C. C. were joint 19th with 61 marks. You can see the individual marks for our 5 prints here.
Congratulations to Frank Ash ARPS for achieving maximum marks for his “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” [Photo in centre above].
Arden P. G. won the Final Round with 210 marks for their 15 prints. In joint 2nd place were Smethwick, Dumfries and Wigan 10 with 196 marks each.
Overall, the standard of the competition was very high. Our results were better than we achieved in previous PAGB Print Championships. It demonstrates that our detailed preparations including the involvement of Richard Egan in the selection process paid dividends. If we are invited again we now know what we have to do to achieve the best possible result.
