I joined Ilkley camera club 2 years ago.

Until 18 months ago, I took only slides then bought dare I say it a Sony a350 as it fits my old Minolta camera lenses.

I have lectured to gardening clubs on garden subjects etc but never to a camera club.

My presentation will be on slides.  I have enjoyed plant hunting in Spanish Pyrenees and just returned from Switzerland presentation on mountains and valleys. In addition, local shots of flora and fauna, etc.

Photographing aircraft brings together two of my long term interests, aviation and taking photos.  The taking of the photographs is what interests me; I have never been one to spend a long time manipulating images either in the darkroom or on the computer.

Some of my first aircraft photos were taken in the late 1950s on my mother’s box brownie from the Queen’s Building (now demolished) at London (now London Heathrow) Airport, a 25-mile cycle ride from home.  After that it was mainly slides, with a Praktica and then a Nikon and although aircraft photography was intermittent while I was working there are a few examples from Finningley Air Shows and occasional airport visits.

Since retirement and digital cameras the opportunities have increased mainly at Manchester and Leeds-Bradford Airports but also recently at Heathrow and some fascinating floatplanes in Canada.
